Tom Wait's Live Rockpalast Concert
Tom Wait's Live Rockpalast Concert in 1977 DVD
Small Change has
always been one of my favorite Tom Waits albums, and
Bad Liver And A Broken Heart [Lyrics]
is one of my favorite songs. His poetry, jazz
piano and drunken beatnik Bukowski-like style seemed to channel the sleazy
hidden underbelly of Americana. He captured both it's stark loneliness
and absurdist humor. In my book, Tom Waits is one of the top five performance
artists of the 20th century.

All of the songs below, most of which are from Waits' Small Change album,

Cornershop - Brim Full Of Asha
Cornershop - Brimful
Of Asha [Lyrics
I liked this song when it came out, but I forgot about until it until I was
looking for videos the other day on Youtube. I had never seen the video before.
It's great! When I first heard this song, I didn't know what the lyrics meant, but I
liked the catchy beat of this song. As it turns out, Asha refers to
the famous Hindi Bollywood backup singer
Asha Bhosle, who is
believed to have sung over 12,000 songs, but her sister is listed in the
Guinness Book of World Records!
Here are a few YouTube examples of Asha
Dil ki kahani rang
layi (1960?) and here is a
O Mere Sona
Re (1966). Also, I found out that
Fatboy Slim's remix version
of this song made it higher in the charts than the original release of Brimful of Asha. Here's another one of Cornershop's videos -

Private Life [Bio]
I had forgot about the art rock band Oingo Boingo mostly because the music I have
by them is on vinyl and in cardboard box somewhere. Also, I had never seen any
of their video performances so this is a real treat for me. Their
social satire seems even more relevant today than it did back in the early
80's. Here a few more of their videos that I liked:
Nothing Bad Ever
Happens To Me,
Little Girls and
Dead Man's Party.
Danny Elfman and Oingo Boingo
Unknown Hinson - Venus Bound [Bio]

This guy sort of personifies what the phrase bat shit crazy means! If
you want to complain, send your hate mail to

with no explanation. BTW, Hinson does appear to be credible guitarist in
his own right -

I immediately thought of Steve Martin when I heard today that they are going
face of King Tut.
